Assembly Information: American Storage Beds

Platform Beds (Home) >> American Wood Beds >> Midwest Heirloom Bed Storage Bed Assembly

The bed we are going to assemble is the Bayside Queen Storage Bed. These assembly steps are for a storage style bed which uses a 12 slat system. These assembly steps should cover the assembly steps for most storage beds made by Midwest Heirloom Furnishings.
Follow the steps below to assemble your storage bed.

Step 1:
Lay out all of your parts. You should find a headboard, footboard, a left drawer system with rail, a right drawer system with rail, (12) slats and a small package of wood screws. Begin assembly by selecting the headboard, footboard and side rails. Arrange these so that the rails will be in proper distance with the headboard and footboard for easier connection and assembly. Tools needed will be a Phillips screwdriver and rubber mallet.

Step 2:
When connecting the headboard and footboard to the rails notice the steel brackets that are on both the siderail and on the headboard. These are pre-installed by the manufacturer and allow for easy connecting of the siderails to the headboard and footboard. The rails have round mounts that slip into holes on the brackets that connect the two. Often these can be hand installed easily but a rubber mallet tapping these down securely will ensure the best fit.

Step 3:
Dropping the slats into the bed is made very easy as the manufacturer has pre-cut slots for each slat to fit into. There is a recommended placement of some slats as these have pre-drilled holes which allow them to be secured to the side rails with the provided wood screws. One placed towards the middle and the others placed towards the outside.

Step 4:
Slat placement is very simple and you'll find dropping them into the pre-cut slots in the side rails makes for a very easy installation. Go ahead and verify that the slats are resting correctly over the side rails and the middle supports that are built into the drawer systems which help with providing additional center support.

Step 5:
Storage beds feature drawers beneath them allowing for the use of space beneath the bed which typically goes unused in conventional styles of beds. These drawers will provide storage for pillows, bedding, clothing and numerous other items. During this stage of assembly your bed drawers will be ready for the attachment of the knobs with a screw that inserts from the inside to the knob on the outside.

Step 6:
Your final step should be to check that all of the rails, headboard and footboard connections are tight and secure. Also check the slats and the wood screws that were used to secure several of them to the frame and just make sure these are tightened well to the rails and center support. Open your bed drawers and make sure each one opens easily.

Step 7:
Once you're satisifed everything is ready then go ahead and place your mattress onto the frame and start enjoying your new bed.
