More Information About This Bed:

The Salsa Wood Platform Bed features a unique textured sunburst design in both the headboard and footboard that create a southwestern style that belong only to the Salsa. These sunburst carvings are stained blue but can also be stained in the same color as the rest of the bed. Each sunburst measures approxamtely 20" wide and 3" in height. These carvings are situated in the middle of the top headboard crosspiece and the footbaord crosspieces of the Salsa wood platform bed. This creates a very low looking bed. Bed frame slats consist of slats banded together for proper spacing and include fourteen 2" wide slats and one 5" wide middle slat. The legs of an Salsa bed are 2"x2" wood posts. These beds are shipped in a long narrow box or multiple boxes depending on the options selected. A center support rail is used on all Twin, Full & Queen size beds. Two center support rails are used on King size beds. Because these are solid wood beds they do not make use of center support legs. Center support legs can be ordered optionally if a specific manufacturer states these must be present and are required to meet the warranty requirements of their mattress. However they are not necessary for the structural integrity of these beds as they are utilizing premium quality hardwoods and materials.

Available Bed Woods
Oak Wood
Oak is a hard and heavy wood with medium bending strength and has a high crushing strength. A good wood for steam bending. High resistance to wear. Oak represents almost 37% of total American hardwoods commercially used. Cut oak dries very slowly. Oak does machine quite well and can be nailed and screwed although because of its hardness may require pre-boring due to the hardness of the wood. Can be stained in a wide range of finishes. The wood is primarily straight grained with a coarse texture. Oak is used in furniture, flooring, millwork, paneling and cabinets.
Maple Wood
Maple is a hard and heavy wood that offers good strength especially in its high resistance to abrasion and wear. Has good steam bending properties. Cut maple dries slowly with a high amount of shrinkage which leads to smaller yields of lumber per tree than the average tree. Pre-boring is recommended when nailing and screwing maple wood. Machines and turns well and can be stained. Maple has a close, fine, uniform texture and is generally straight-grained. Maple is used in furniture, flooring, ballroom and gymnasium floors, stairs, cabinets and doors.

Features & Options

(Best) Many available bed options and or color options.
NOTES: A huge positive for this bed are all the available options you can select for it. One option is called Bigger Gap which is offered in 3". This makes the headboard taller to help accommodate thicker mattresses. Another is 3" Higher Bed which provides more space beneath the bed. There are also options to upgrade the slats from softwood spruce to hardwood poplar and to also double up the slats to make the foundation more solid with less gaps between each slat. There are also options to allow the use of a mattress/boxspring or to increase the height of the platform of the bed for more space beneath the bed. If you need it extra long or XL, yes you can select that as well. You won't find other manufacturers offering options like these and the options are pretty unique to these beds. In fact many of these options were created from customer needs over the years and often if you need something in an option that isn't offered its quite possible that option can be created to fit your specific need as well.

Construction Quality
(Better) Satisfying bed built from quality materials and is well constructed.
NOTES: The Salsa platform bed captures the spirit of the west and its rich culture in the sunburst carvings that adorn both the headboard and footboard crosspieces of this bed. Done in a dusty blue finish this design is unique among platform beds and is sure to add character to any bedroom that has a Southwestern flavor. The Salsa platform bed has a 28" high headboard. Each leg is 2" x 2". Because the dimensions of the Salsa platform bed are kept smaller than many other beds in the market you'll find that you can fit it into most bedrooms. XL or extra long options are also available for both Twin & Full size Salsa beds.

The Salsa platform bed incorporates "solid wood" into its construction much like traditional Arts & Crafts furniture did. No veneers or particle boards are used in this bed. Many modern beds priced at or above this bed are using veneers and particle board. Some of these may be have been constructed well but most will show uneven seams and edges where the veneer was not applied well. Because the Salsa platform bed is solid wood you won't ever have to worry about issues with veneer pulling off or seeing exposed materials beneath. The Salsa bed is offered in solid Red Oak by default. You also can upgrade to Hard Rock Maple. Both of these woods are sourced domestically and will offer excellent support and stability in the construction of this bed.

The wood for this bed is hand cut by a skilled craftsman who is able to create each piece by hand. This hands on approach ensures quality will be high much the same way traditional furniture from the Arts & Crafts period was created. Salsa platform beds are finished with what is called a Danish oil finish. This finish is safe and non-toxic and is a great alternative for a more natural look. The Danish oil is hand applied and rubbed onto each piece. The oil soaks into the wood penetrating it and giving it a unique color which brings out the beautiful grains in each piece of wood. Salsa beds are also available unfinished so that you can stain your bed in the finish of your choice. Many people are allergic or sensitive to polyurethane's or other sealant used in today's furniture and seem to have less problems with oil finishes. That's why the Salsa platform bed is only made with a Danish oil finish which doesn't have any sealant, polyurethane or other chemicals used in its finish.

Packaging
(Best) Excellent. Well packaged. Very few if any issues ever with this product in shipping.
NOTES: These beds are broken down in such a way that they can be shipped UPS or FedEx. What this does for the end user is to help keep the cost of shipping and packaging down making the price $150-$200 less. It is in more parts though and will require a little more assembly than similar higher priced beds.

Assembly
(Good) Above Average. Assembly is straightforward. May be challenging for novices to RTA furniture.
NOTES: The only complaint one might possibly have about these beds is that they are indeed considered bed kits. What this means is that the end user will be assembling the headboard and footboard of each bed. While assembly isn't too tough the novice furniture buyer who avoids RTA (Ready to Assemble) furniture due to their poor assembly skills may need to have some help handy when it comes to assembling this bed. If you've ever assembled entertainment centers or other similar furniture you should have no trouble with this. For the price it's easily worth the savings to simply figure it out yourself or with help from a friend.
