Bed Review - The Pecos Lite

Lite Platform Bed Review:
Named after the village of Pecos, NM along the Pecos River.
Pronounced (Pay-cuss) this simple New Mexico village is
the entrance to the Glorieta Pass and much like its namesake
the Pecos Lite platform bed is the beginning style of
bed in this particular line of wood platform beds. It
too is simple and offers you everything you need in a
wood bed but keeps design and form very basic. Its no
headboard design should fit well next to or under most

Positives:
The Pecos Lite platform bed incorporates "solid wood"
into its construction much like traditional Arts & Crafts
furniture did. No veneers or particle boards are used
in this bed. Many modern beds priced at or above this
bed are using veneers and particle board. Some of these
may be have been constructed well but most will show uneven
seams and edges where the veneer was not applied well.
Because the Pecos Lite platform bed is solid wood you
won't ever have to worry about issues with veneer pulling
off or seeing exposed materials beneath. The Pecos Lite
bed is offered in solid Red Oak by default. You also can
upgrade to Hard Rock Maple. Both of these woods are sourced
domestically and will offer excellent support and stability
in the construction of this bed. Bamboo is also available
which will provide an exotic look. The wood for this bed
is hand cut by a skilled craftsman who is able to create
each piece by hand. This hands on approach ensures quality
will be high much the same way traditional furniture from
the Arts & Crafts period was created.
Checking out the Pecos Lite bed you'll see a simple no
headboard design which lends itself well to tight spaces
and low ceilings. Its also low enough that many people
like using it next to wall mounted headboards. The Pecos
Lite platform bed has a " high headboard. Each leg is
2" x 2". Because the dimensions of the Pecos Lite platform
bed are kept smaller than many other beds in the market
you'll find that you can fit it into most bedrooms. XL
or extra long options are also available for both Twin
& Full size Pecos Lite beds. Its no headboard design will
help open up bedrooms by taking up less wall height space
and will help make the room feel larger. Something larger
headboards won't do. Pecos Lite platform beds are finished
with what is called a Danish oil finish. This finish is
safe and non-toxic and is a great alternative for a more
natural look. The Danish oil is hand applied and rubbed
onto each piece. The oil soaks into the wood penetrating
it and giving it a unique color which brings out the beautiful
grains in each piece of wood. Pecos Lite beds are also
available unfinished so that you can stain your bed in
the finish of your choice. Many people are allergic or
sensitive to polyurethanes or other sealants used in today's
furniture and seem to have less problems with oil finishes.
That's why the Pecos Lite platform bed is only made with
a Danish oil finish which doesn't have any sealants, polyurethanes
or other chemicals used in its finish.
Another positive for this bed are all the available options
you can select for it. These range from options upgrading
the slats from softwood spruce to hardwood poplar and
to also double up the slats to make the foundation more
solid with less gaps between each slat.
Negatives:
These beds are broken down in such a way that they can
be shipped UPS or FedEx. What this does for the end user
is to help keep the cost of shipping and packaging down
making the price $150-$200 less. It is in more parts though
and will require a little more assembly than similar higher
priced beds.
The Pecos Lite platform bed is made to order as it is
hand made and the average wait for these beds is around
5 weeks for delivery. The wait "is" worth it, but if you're
in a hurry then you might want to consider doing one of
the in-plant rush options (expedited or express) which
will help get your bed to the front of the line for quicker
production and faster delivery.
Because of its no headboard design many of the options
available for other styles of beds from this manufacturer
are not available for the Pecos Lite platform bed. Options
such as Bigger Gap, Higher Bed, Boxspring Upgrade and
others. If you need a lower headboard design but need
some of these options you should consider moving into
the regular Pecos platform bed.
